Old Argument

I continue to believe that opposable thumbs are not necessary and we shouldn't consider ourselves superior life forms because we have them. I'm not saying that they don't make things easier, just that they aren't necessary.

Erica---Didn't we have this argument at work?? Remember how hard it would be just to put a syringe on a line...keeping things sterile. I dare you to try it for a whole shift!??

I've heard this argument many times, and it's time to introduce a new counterargument. Rather than focusing on (relatively) new things as I have in the past (buttons, syringes, etc) let's go in the way back machine and look at our ancestors who were just starting to use tools (rocks, sticks, whatever). Would they have succeeded and evolved into intelligent humans without opposable thumbs? I'm sure Erica will say "Yes, they would have." and leave it at that.
